St. Louis Perfectos Base Ball Club
12-13 July - North to Milwaukee

The Perfectos recently returned from a two day trip to Milwaukee after taking part in the
4th Annual Cream Citys 1860's Base Ball Festival.  Only nine ballists made the trip
and after five games in two days all were tired.

The Perfectos opened the festival with a win over the Cream Citys ballists.  Doc,
Chatterbox and Hawkeye reached base safely four of five at bats.  In the second match
of the day the Perfectos lost a one run game to the Minnesota Base Ball Club.  Sting
lead the striking with a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, while Chatter box and Shutterbug
each went 3 for 4.  The Perfectos managed a close win over the Milwaukee Grays in
their final match of Saturday.  Sting and Hawkeye once again lead the way going 4 for
5 and 5 for 6 respectively.

Sundays matches brought renewed energy and dryer fields.  The Perfectos opened
the day with an enjoyable win over Greenbush Dead Citys.  A fine nine from north of
Milwaukee.  The match took place in a wonderfully picturesque setting.  Leading the
way for the Perfectos were Chuckwagon with 6 hits.  Wheels and Cyclone each
managed to tally three aces in the match.  In the final game of the weekend, fatigue
began to set in.  The Perfectos managed just one ace in a loss to the Eagle
Diamonds.  Danger, Wheels, and Sting each had two hits in the game.

We have seen several of these teams at Lafayette Square in the past and I would
expect to see them invited back as well as our new friends from Greenbush.
18 July - Springfield Long Nines - Inaugural Game

The Perfectos concluded their road trip month long road trip to Springfield, IL to take
on a new Vintage Team in the area called the Springfield Nine in a single 9-inning
affair.  The Perfectos were not polite to their new friends tallying three aces in the top
of the first frame.  The Long Nines battled back and tied the score in the bottom of the
second.  The Perfectos added three more tallies in the 3rd and again in the 7th.  The
Springfield Club fought back with 2 runs in the 7th and 2 more in the 8th.  The
Perfectos added 3 more runs in the 9th and were able to hold the home team in the
bottom of the 9th.

Following the game, both teams headed to downtown Springfield to put on an
exhibition for those folks visiting the Lincoln Library.  Groups of Long Nines and
Perfectos spent several hours talking to folk, answering questions and letting young
cranks take a swing at with the bat.
26 July - The Return Home vs. Mascoutah Blues

After a long road trip, the Perfectos returned home to Lafayette Square to host the
Mascoutah Blues in a two game 7-inning match.  The Perfectos tallied four quick
aces in the top of the first inning from On th Fly, Jericho, Cyclone, and Wheels.  That
would be all that was needed for the first match as defense prevailed for the rest of
the match from both squads.  The Perfectos scored additional tallies in the 3rd, and
6th frames to end the game at a final score of 8 aces to 2.  Jericho scored three aces
and all but one Perfecto reached base safely at least once.

The Blues opened the scoring in the second game with an ace in the top of the 2nd
frame.  The Perfectos answered back with of the own in the bottom of the inning.  The
Perfectos added three in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th and the Blues were able to add
one more ace in the 7th for a final of 7-2.  All Perfectos reached base at least once
during the second match of the day.

A special thanks to the Blues who were able to travel to St. Louis on a very short
notice to replace a team that had dropped in our schedule.
9 August - Perfectos Battle to Two wins in Decatur

The Perfectos ventured north once more this year to visit the guardians of Rock
Springs - our very good friends the Rock Springs Ground Squirrels.  In the first  match
of the day, the Perfectos bats were very slow to wake up.  The Squirrels tallied one
ace in the 2nd frame and one more in the 3rd before the Perfectos were able to score.
Lightning, Moonshine and On the Fly put the Perfectos ahead in the top of the 4th
frame.  Chatterbox tallied one more in the top of the 6th.  The Squirrels were able to
get one back in the bottom of the 6th, but the Perfectos held on to win 4 aces to 3.
This is the kind of defensive struggle that these two teams have come to know.

In the second match, the defense cooled of a bit and the strikers began to ring the
bell.  Wheels and Lightning scored in the top of the 1st and Lightning added another
tally in the 3rd for a 3 - 0 lead.  Rock Springs tallied 6 aces in the bottom of the inning
to go ahead.  In the top of the 5th, it was the Perfectos turn as they tallied 4 aces
(Hack, Moose, River Rat and Wheels) to earn a slim lead of 7 -6 after 5 innings.  The
Perfectos added 4 more (Moose, River Rat, Wheels, Lightning) in the top of the 7th to
put the game out of reach.  Perfectos went on to win 11 - 7.

The Perfectos truly enjoy their trip to Dectur every year to visit the team that us get our
start.  A classy and upstanding organization.

16 August - Perfectos get Two Wins in Florrisant

The Perfectos visited one of their co-St. Louis teams today for a triple header with the
St. Louis Unions and the Aviston Conductors.  The Perfectos played two close
matches but were able to pull a win out in both matches.  All the Perfectos strokers
were able to reach base safely throughout the day.  The 9 frame match with the
Unions was tied 1-1 at the end of the 2nd inning.  The Perfectos tallied 3 aces but the
Unions responded with 6.  Both teams tallied a single run each in the 4th and the
Perfectos tallied three in the 5 to tie the game.  The games final two runs came in the
8th frame which lead to the Perfectos victory of 10 aces to 8 aces.

Against the Aviston nine, the Perfectos scored three quick tallies in the 1st frame and
never trailed the rest of the way, matching Aviston's aces in several of the innings.
The Perfectos held off a late rally to win their second match of the day 7 aces to 6.
16 September - Perfectos into busy final month of season

The Perfectos have had a busy end of the summer and are looking to finish the 2008
campaign in just 4 short weeks.  After travel to Columbus, OH on Memorial Day for the
Ohio Cup, the Perfectos held the Jerimiah Fruin Festival the following weekend.

The 11 that traveled to Ohio had a wonderful weekend topped of with a team dessert
of chocolate nachos.  The team had several first timers to the festival including
Bookworm, Lightning, Rump Wreck and Shutterbug.  The weekend went very well and
the Perfectos finished with 3 wins, 2 losses and a tie.

The following weekend the Perfectos hosted the Jerimiah Fruin Festival hosting two
teams from Illinois.  The Oregon Ganymedes made the journey from outside Chicago
and the new nine from Springfield, Ill., the Springfield Long Nines.  A marvelous
weekend weather wise and many fine games.  Good striking all around and even
better defense most of the time.  We would like to thank the two squads fro coming
down and making the festival a success.
21 September - Base ball amidst distractions

The Perfectos enjoyed a short road trip this past weekend to Mascoutah, Il to play a
round robin with the Mascoutah Blues and the New Baden Juniors.  In the first match
of the day, the Perfectos tallied aces early and then held the Blues to minimal aces
with some fine defense.  Leading Perfectos strikers were Bookworm, on base 4 times
in 4 tries, and Lightning and Wheels, who each reached base 3 times in 4 tries.  The
Perfectos finished with tallies in 5 of 7 frames to down the Blues 9 to 4.

In the second match, the Perfectos again tallied 3 quick aces in the bottom of the first
frame as an answer to the Juniors tally in the top.  Defense prevailed in this match as
the Perfectos held the Juniors to that single tally to win the second match 6 to 1.

On a non-vintage note,  all the ballist and cranks enjoyed the Ari show that was being
performed at nearby Scott Air Force Base.  The Thunderbirds, during the second
match, were of a particular distraction as they continual flew VERY near over the field.
6 October - Missouri  Cup

It is the time of the season when the Missouri Vintage Base Ball teams come
together and enjoy a day of base ball "vintage style" in the Missouri.  The University
City Lions and the St. Louis Unions joined the Perfectos for the 3rd Annual Missouri
Cup Festival.  The field was in excellent condition and the weather could not have
been better.

In a tough set of three matches an astonishing 53 aces were tallied.  The Lions and
the Unions began the day with a high scoring affair which the Lions won 18 to 11.
The Perfectos held off the Unions in the second match of the day 9 - 3.  The final
match of the day was decided by one ace in the top of the 9th frame, with the
Perfectos losing 17 -16.
12 October - Perfectos split with Unions

The Perfectos took a short road game to north St. Louis to play there crosstown
comrades this past weekend as part of the an annual festival held in Florissant, MO.
As usual, the opposing nines faced off to two very close matches.

The Unions took the first match 10 aces to 9 in the bottom of the 11th frame.  Neither
team ever lead by more than 1 ace the entire game.  The Perfectos tallied 3 quick
aces in the first and the Unions matched them with two tallies in the bottom of the
frame.  The Perfectos added two more aces in the 2nd frame and the Unions tallied 3
in the bottom of the 3rd.  The teams traded single tallies the rest of the game until the
bottom of the 11th when the Unions tallied the equalizer and the go ahead run to win
the first match.

During the second match, it was the Unions who struck first with two aces in the 1st
frame.  The Perfectos tallied 5 aces in the 3rd and 4 in the 6th .  The Perfectos were
able to hold off the Unions in the top of the 9th to win 11 aces to 8.
